Water Water Everywhere

Thomas got his first creek play of the season out of the way today. After story time at the library, we met Jen and Mark at Garst Mill Park, which has a big stream. The boys had absolutely no interest in playing on the playground. All they wanted to do was play with sticks near the creak. So at first it was "Boys, just put your sticks in the water." Then it was "Boys, shoes only in the water." About 15 minutes later Jen and I were taking bets as to which boy would fall in first. (Mark did.) At one point both boys looked up at their mothers and said together gleefully called "Bye!" before wading upstream where more adventure awaited. When they disappeared out of eyeshot, we had to go track them down, only to discover them both in waist high water splashing around and catching water skippers.

Both boys were SOAKED from head to toe and Thomas had mud in his ears and hair when we finally dragged them out of the creek an hour and a half later. Thomas told me a couple times while playing that he was cold. I suggested each time he come out of the water and his response each time was an adamant "NO!" I ended up taking Thomas home in just a clean diaper because I didn't have a change of clothes for him. The weather was about 75*, so we figured while the water was cold, at least the air temps were decent.
